Or: as a former Champion, Blue was roped into discussing the technicalities of the next Pokémon World Tournament. Red would be otherwise fine by that, except Blue was engaging in a corporate dissing match at 12 AM, and surely getting this heated-up and angry at such hour wasn't healthy for them both. The solution, Red realized, was simpler than he thought.

Blue is Kanto Champion for thirty-nine minutes.
That’s it. Technically, he’s part of the Hall of Fame, technically he’s an accepted Champion. Technically, the title was his once, so it will always be his. Technically, he can’t lose it. He just loses being the present Champion.
He also, briefly, held the Kanto record for youngest ever Pokemon League champion. That was until Red, three months younger, caught up to him.
Really, Blue hadn’t even been surprised.

"I'm not yours," Ash asserts, partly to provoke a response. His heart quickens as Ten tilts his head, a gesture reminiscent of a Murkrow. His green eyes are impossibly dark, gaze lowering after a moment as he smiles, the corners not quite reaching his eyes.
"Everyone else seems to think so," he says.

Professor Oak suggests to the mourning boy to head to Alola, with the hopes that the sunshine, peace, and kind atmosphere will help him begin a path toward recovery. Meanwhile, Blue Oak, Gym Leader of Viridian City, son of Professor Samuel Oak, and partner to Interpol Agent Looker, mysteriously washes up onshore on Ula'ula Island in Alola.
Turns out, the both of them ended up in Alola for a reason, and once again, the fate of the world is in Ash, Blue, and their friends' hands.
