This fic is absolutely gorgeous I love this so much. The writing style is smth I typically don't like and smth I don't see too much bcos it's rlly narration heavy and it's pretty curt without much room for descriptions, but it's written in such a way that it works bcos it definitely makes up for what would usually be a lack of substance with story. Like damn they rlly took the writing style and owned it and I rlly admire the writer for that. It's straight to the point while still hitting the feels straight on and short writing style has an actl purpose of focusing on the main points and making the story, well short which is why it probably works cos it's fully embracing the writing style. On to the actl story, I actl cried when the pokemon died cos damn the constant pressure on green and how he feels like he'll nvr be enough, and that part bout his gramps saying he doesn't care enough for his pokemon when he's shown caring so much rlly hits that point straight home cos god damn hug that dude man, he even named the next pokemon who he got a long time later after that pokemon. And the whole thing with red too, imagine achieving everything u ever wanted for 20 mins then the guy who doesn't even want it takes it, same with Charmander, and especially his gramps approval, I'd punch oak if it was possible. Green rlly acts like a grieving child with no opportunity to actl grief or let out everything at the start, his sentimentality in naming pokemon, or his rage at red bcos of his gramps alw giving him his approval, and even when he comes back from kalos, but the story never rlly blames him nor does it frame his actions as completely right, he's just someone who's trying his best and doesn't alw know how to deal with his emotions, and I absolutely love that, and I also love the way he doesn't immediately fix his relationships, and Kanto still feels suffocating to him cos going away without telling anyone is not smth that's fixed so easily and it's fair for ppl to be hurt by it but still understand green has his reasons like shown in the scene where daisy yells at green. I also do rlly like the scene where red hugs green when he yells at him, feels like he's finally taking action after always being passive and it's sweet. I also like the part where green calls his gramps professor instead I mean I confused it with sycamor for a sex but YEA U GO GREENNNN.This fic made me so attached to green I genuinely felt proud and glad when he found happiness with Kanto and after with red. This fic is rlly just green and even red healing and growing and discovering themselves and their happiness. There's constant up and down but they don't pause and wallow in their pain they get up and leave when they're overwhelmed or need a change in life or just comfort each other some times and their relationship is so sweet with green slowly realising his love and them caring and waiting for the other and even the sex is sweet and I don't like smut or anything. They talk things through and accommodate each other which rlly shows their growth and is honestly way better than most couples these days. There's a lot of crying and breakdowns a lot of struggles but there's a lot of being comforted (Eva best Eevee) and a lot of getting through it, there's bad decisions but there's also so much happy moments and joy and a whole lot of growth and this fic is so damn realistic without exaggarating but not sugarcoating anything and nothing just miraculously fixes (I love that the relationship with green and oak nvr fixes) but if they make an effort it'll blossom into a greater relationship and goddd I love this fic it's got me smiling like a proud mother and I don't even know much bout green heck I didn't even know blue was called green and I'm still confused as heck.

How did I end up reading this? I have no earthly idea, but I'm so, so glad I did. It's genuinely incredible how much endearing character the author manages to draw out of a player-insert and a guy whose primary character trait is "dickhead" from an RPG made for children and still have it still feel faithful to the source material. It's like one of those memes about how silly fanfiction can sound to outsiders, except it doesn't feel silly at all when you're reading it, you just get pulled in by the incredible writing and invested in these two loveable dorks.
