They don’t say much, because they both know that somehow, Karl will go home with Dream tonight. They’ll sneak in, avoid questions from the blond’s parents, but get a knowing look from Drista. They’ll fall asleep tangled up together, in the same bed, under the same sheets. Dream will fall asleep with Karl pretty much on top of him.
They’ll meet each other in their dreams, in a world far, far away from the hell they face in reality. And in those dreams, they’ll be happy, they’ll never know sadness, and when the morning comes with Apollo dragging the sun in the sky, they’ll skip school, because they both deserve a day off.
or, Karl films for the Otis Lilley boys lacrosse team, Dream plays for the team, and there's one kid who definitely should keep his mouth shut.

Karl reached for the stuffie, then pulled his hands back and gripped the seams of his jeans. He bit his lip and looked at Sapnap, bouncing on his toes a bit and earning more odd looks. He reached for it again, fingers wiggling, then his hands snapped back to his sides, fingers twitching. Sapnap smiled at his restraint, then looked over at George, who was leaning heavily against Sapnap’s side, eyes half-closed. Sapnap knew Karl wasn’t going to ask for the toy and they needed to get out of the store as quickly as possible.
“Go on, Karl. You can have it.” Sapnap nodded at the stuffie, pushing the cart closer.
Karl reached out, then drew his hands back with a whine, mumbling something under his breath as he looked down at his hands.

Dream sighed and left the room, closing the door quietly behind him. Karl would probably sleep off his attitude and be ready for his dentist appointment by tomorrow.
Dream was wrong.
When he went to wake up Karl, the other ignored him, not even acknowledging someone else was in the room. Dream sighed and pulled the covers off the Little, gently turning him over so he could get him dressed. Karl didn’t help at all. Didn’t lift his hips so Dream could get his pants changed, didn’t sit up to change his shirt, nothing. He was basically a rag doll and it took Dream almost twenty minutes to get him dressed.

Both Sapnap and Quackity shielded their eyes from the light, then it was gone. In its place was a blearily blinking Karl. His usual brown eyes were a bright yellow with golden swirls inside. He looked dizzy and disoriented and his hands were up as if blocking an attack.
“Don’t feed me to the egg,” he slurred.
Quackity knelt next to him. “Karl, love, what’s going on?”
Karl looked at him, then Sapnap, eyes unfocused. “Dwew? James?” His head rolled back and Sapnap rushed to catch him before he hit the ground, cradling the older in his lap.
