Being a mother is a hell of a job as it is. Being a mother when all you have for reference is your own imagination and distant feelings of yearning and hollowness and jealousy every time you see a happy family in front of you is an absolute freaking disaster.

This fic mostly focuses on Miriam's parent issues, some memories from her childhood (not fun), troubles communicating with children, uncertainty in herself and her own worth, and complicated feelings towards motherhood. With some icky family feels and family bonding in between, of course, because Kiwi is a good friend (and a good parent) and is always there for her. (Still. Even after all these years. For some reason. Sheesh.)

If her grandmother's firm hands hadn't forced Miriam to heavily plop back onto her bed, those words, said in an uncharacteristically dry tone, would've probably done the trick.
The young witch knew better than to argue with the old woman when her usually cheerful and lighthearted voice took on that cold, sharp edge to it. That was Miriam's cue – that was how she knew when she really did screw up.

An alternate ending for the story of Wandersong beginning after the conclusion of Act 5. As Kiwi continues their adventure to collect the remaining pieces of the Earthsong, they begin to realize a new strength in their voice. Miriam returns home to Delphi to recuperate following her previous encounter with Audrey, overcome with a lot of emotions to process. With the bard and the witch separated, the two struggle to come to terms with their separation. However, in the absence of one another, new feelings brew and burn within them, inevitably rising to the surface.

Despite the hectic adventures they'd had over the past few weeks, and their frightening near-miss with The End, Miriam had begun to figure that everything would simmer back to normality, at last... No more seeking out Overseers, or flying halfway around the world in a manner of days, or running around doing sidequests for everyone who wanders by.
... Funny, how- against all odds- some things just refuse to die. Even when no one wanted them around anymore. Like cockroaches, for instance. Or snotty little heroes.

When a simple sleepover becomes a whimsical adventure -
Sadness stirred in the bard's heart as they gazed at photos of a scowling young witch. She was alone in each picture, with no friends in sight. Maybe, just maybe, there was something they could do. Maybe they could take a picture together with the witch. Maybe they could take a LOT of pictures with her! Why stop there? Why not go meet up with all their old friends and take pictures with them as well?
Thus Kiwi and Miriam set off on a new journey. One to familiar places to see familiar faces. One that sees them become pirates, lyricists, fugitives... and maybe even closer friends?
