A way to not only shut down rumors about your House, your presumed insanity, your visions—but also the ones about why Adolin has been ignoring every marriage proposal he’s received? And, in the process, ensure Kaladin’s status as untouchable?”
Dalinar’s stomach twisted. He had a bad feeling about this, “I don’t have time for this, Wit,” he said, “Speak plainly.”
Wit leaned back in his chair. Without breaking eye contact, he said, “We betroth Kaladin to Adolin.”
“You’re joking,” Dalinar said once his mouth regained its ability to form words.
Silence stretched between them. Wit was not joking.
Dalinar missed the person he was before this conversation.

Adolin choked, “What—?” His voice cracked, “You think I—? That I like Kaladin? As in… like‑like?”
Dalinar frowned, “Don’t you?”
“No!” Adolin half‑shouted, “No, of course not. He’s my friend. My best friend.”
