It had been a season since that night on the cliff in the South of Cindersap forest.
Without really thinking about it, the Farmer crossed the Stardrop Saloon carefully, slowly, like he did when he spooked a wild animal in the outskirts of town. Gingerly he approached Shane and said “hey,” like a peace offering.
Shane’s mouth quirked a little, he didn’t tilt his head, just kept his gaze firmly on the polished wood of the bar. “Wish you hadn’t seen me like that.” He grunted out like a pitiful apology, picking up a small pinch of salted peanuts and slapping them to his mouth, chewing thoughtfully.

“No! I do want help.” She burst out. Shane blinked, slowly and deliberately.

Beside him, Shane feels the Farmer’s warmth. Their clothed arms touch, and he wonders if they could feel the static coursing through his veins as his fingers drum along the rails. Shane watches them, seeing their expression grow soft with childlike wonder at the glassy water.
“Beautiful,” Shane breathes out. “Absolutely stunning.”
“Yeah,” the Farmer murmurs, eyes darting back and forth in excitement. “Nature is stunning, isn’t she?”
