Summary
(Summary might change slightly as the story unfolds.) The first work of several that I'm planning for a series that explores Morana and Striga further and gives them the love and depth they deserve.
King Casimir, the man who sired Carmilla and became her husband, is growing increasingly tyrannical, unhinged and paranoid. Carmilla is unraveling beneath him, her desperation barely held together by Morana’s steady, unflinching rationality. For decades, they have kept the damage contained while slowly orchestrating the right conditions to seize the throne.
When Morana returns mostly unharmed from an incident she refuses to elaborate on, Carmilla’s fear curdles into something else entirely. Morana’s continued withholding of information provokes Carmilla’s retaliation, and the queen punishes her advisor, sister and confidante in an insulting, controlling way: she assigns Morana a personal guard.
It is a decision that will quietly and irrevocably the course of everything that follows, and Morana is not prepared for it.

Every night, when Carmilla went into the forest, her steps led her, inexplicably, to the same river. And every night, as if the earth itself were guarding this secret, the girl was there again. Sometimes she gathered herbs, sometimes she washed her hands in the cold water, sometimes she simply sat on the bank, watching the moon.
Carmilla began to notice that she was waiting for these meetings. And each time she caught the green glimmer of her eyes in the darkness, a quiet, almost forgotten calm stirred in her chest. -

"So..." Carmilla begins with an air of authority, gracefully taking her seat at the head of the elaborately set table and gesturing for you to join her. You take your place. "I had an imprint." The tall one appears taken aback by this revelation while the stoic individual with chocolate skin maintains her composure and offers a serene expression. As for the mischievous member who caught your attention during your time in captivity, she wears a sly grin before erupting into laughter.
"You had an imprint on a human!?" The tall one interjects harshly with emphasis on each word causing you to shrink back.
"Yes, I did." Carmilla responds as she pours you a glass of wine. "Would you like to introduce yourself, my dear?" Carmilla prods, but the piercing gazes of the three vampires make you feel mortified.
"I'm Laura." You murmur, feeling small against their overwhelming presence.
"It seems my gift was more than just a simple blood bag." The redhead quips with an infectious smile on her lips. "Hello, Laura. It appears that you have put our Queen of Styria head over heels for you." Carmilla growls and you want to stick your head under the table with embarrassment.
