The year is 2178. The human collective expands at a blistering rate, flashing outwards with indomitable pioneering spirit. Great frontiers break every day, in science, in exploration, in technology; the border between galaxies is pierced. Life is discovered to abound in the universe, from unicellular to eukaryotically complex. There is an undercurrent to the modern paradigm of life that hints at greater secrets somewhere, looming from the knowledge that near-human sapience exists on more than one planet, which means so far the odds have worked out about exactly as expected when it comes to alien life. Then, obviously, humanity finds superhuman intelligence somewhere in Andromeda, and the whole world falls apart.

After there are hearings of a strange new planet appearing in the Solar System. Link, as the doughter of the Knight that died protecting Zelda's mother, is chosen to protect the team who will be tasked to investigate it.
No one is sure who will be on the team yet, which slows down the preparation process.
The Gerudo, who are at war with the Hyrule Kingdom, are dead set on being able to send one of their own people, not trusting Hylians at all. Which only makes the atmosphere more tense.
On the way Link discovers things she didn't know about herself… will she be able to be up to the task without breaking on the way?
Side Plot: Link is hopelessly in love with the Zora prince. But the Zora prince has his eyes on someone alse… and that someone is Queen Yona of the River Zora.

Realistically, the highest quality fanfic for Subnautica is "In Charge" by NoCoincidence. It's a genuinely well-made fic that I have no complaints about. But one day, I wondered what it would be like if Marguerit, who canonically survived through canon, interacted with a post-canon Varien and Volara.
This is the result.
