The first time Youngjae walked in on Jihoon cutting in his house, he couldn’t breathe for a moment. He already knew Jihoon did this — but seeing the blood actually dripping down his arm tore his heart out of his chest. Jihoon didn’t notice him at first, seeming hypnotised by the liquid flow of red. Youngjae called his name hoarsely, urgently. He looked up, eyes dazed. A guilty, embarrassed look crossed his face and he tried to hide the penknife, but it was too late.
Youngjae walked up shakily and gently uncurled Jihoon’s fingers, loosening the blade from them. He tossed it into the trash, his own fingers trembling.
“Why did you do it again?” he asked.
“It soothes me, takes the edge off.” Jihoon’s calm answer broke his heart. “I’m sorry, hyung, but I can’t quit. Not yet.”
In high school, Jihoon meets Youngjae, and he saves him.
