The first time it happens is with the lights off and the door securely locked. It's a collision of bodies more than anything else - the release of years of pent-up need and carnal desire. The relief of finally being able to touch, and be touched is overwhelming. Then Rimmer leaves to prance around the galaxy and its multitude of dimensions as Ace, and Lister is left alone again to realise just how much he's lost.
And Lister's past humiliation now, past a disbelieving sort of doubt. He's right onto the part of being well and truly smegged, because Rimmer's gone and he isn't coming back and Lister's in love with him.

After the Cat barrels into Lister and Lister accidentally puts his hands on a stove, Kryten informs Lister that he'll have to give up the use of his hands for a few weeks for them to heal. Although Kryten can help Lister with most basic tasks, Series 4000 mechanoids do have the drawback of not being waterproof. The job of helping Lister bathe himself will have to fall on someone else. (Spoiler Alert: It's Rimmer!)

Kristine needed some way to keep herself sane. Her Dave had been brought back to maintain her sanity, and with the two of them... separated, she was forced to come up with her own alternatives.
So her imagination had stepped in for her, created an escape inside her mind. She was lying, pretending, wishing things were back the way they should. She wasn't trapped here on this cranky, squeaky, tiny ship. She wasn't dimensions apart from the love of her life. She certainly wasn't instead stuck with this pathetic bootleg version who seemed perfectly willing to lick three-million-year-old curry off his own feet.
...Maybe she should've just let herself fall into that void in the inter-dimensional nothingness.
But she hadn't. And it's no good thinking like that now. Despite her misgivings with this crew, at least they had kept her alive. She owed them as much to not just go die on them. She owed her Dave that much.
