The Endless must gather again and find a way to not let it happen. But... the Endless weren't only seven siblings anymore...

Then they felt it: a familiar taste of desire that echoed out from a certain helm.AKA Desire is not handing the change from Morpheus to Daniel in Dream well, gets on their father’s last nerve, and winds up about a century or so in the past where their dear older brother is alive (though imprisoned). Chaos ensues.

Before there was man, or matter, or energy. There was Time and Night. The void at the borders of existence, and the ceaseless rhythm in which all things exist. It was their union, their love, which made all of creation possible. And it was this same love that created The Endless. But eventually, they drifted apart, growing detached from each other and their children. Despite their detachment, the old adage proved true, absence only makes the heart grow fonder. Countless centuries of separation eventually pulled them together. For a short while they bathed in the memory of their love, and reignited the smoldering ash of their passion. Only once. But once is all it takes
From this reunion, something new was created. Someone new was born. Dread, the lord and personification of all fear and understanding, and now the youngest sibling of The Endless. It is uncertain who they will be or how their existence will disrupt the world. But I suppose now is the time that we find out.

Part of Desire’s function is that they were meant to be colleague, partner, and consort to Dream. Desire was born with this knowledge, but Dream wasn’t. So, when Dream meets his new sibling for the first time he think Desire’s just overly affectionate because of who they are.
Just some loosely connected chapters with Dream misunderstanding Desire’s intentions throughout their lives.

Dream is plunge into this new relationship remembering the previous antagonistic one or rather what life could have been had it not always been dreamed this way.
Everyone just confused why Dream is being so weird to his spouse Desire and Desire is hurt by the sudden attitude change and afraid they did something again they don't know is wrong.
Also Dream can't get over the fact that apparently everyone has a better life in the world where he and Desire end up together.
