Ino had never thought much of Hinata Hyuuga. The girl was quiet, didn’t make eye contact, didn’t speak up. What was there to interest her? She wasn’t like Sakura who was loud and fun. Or Shikamaru who was biting and infuriating. Not even Chouji, her sweet sweet Chouji. Hinata was boring.
That’s what Ino thought up until the day she realized the girl was haunted.

“We’re good, Naruto, but are we ready to face off against everyone else?” Ino asked.
“And not just leaf nin, but genin from all the lands,” Shikamaru added.
“Look,” Naruto said seriously, “Asuma recommended us for a reason. I say we trust that reason and go for it! Believe it!”
“This is such a drag,” Shikamaru complained.
Ino hid her smile and cocked her head to the side and said faux thoughtfully, “It’s either this or we keep doing D-rank missions. Do we really want to continue catching that damn cat and cleaning farm equipment?”
Shikamaru winced and admitted, “You have a point.”

Summary
The line moves forward and Miyuki’s hand drops to Eijun’s waist to pull him along. They’re the next people to be helped and she’s really starting to feel her hunger.
Eijun, on the other hand, forgets all about her and the line when Miyuki’s hands touch him. He pulls at the scarf again, rising up to his tiptoes to get closer to Miyuki’s face. “Kiss!” Eijun demands with his lower lip jutted out in a pout. Miyuki bites his lip to stop his smile from growing though she’s not sure who he’s trying to trick here. The whole thing almost looks out of place on his face, but she finds that it suits him.
“Eijun, we’re--”
“Kiss!” Ejun demands again, pushing as far up on his toes as he can, hands pressed palm first into Miyuki’s chest. Miyuki doesn’t mind, the opposite she thinks. He clicks his tongue and mutters, “brat,” but he’s already bending his neck to slot their mouths together. It looks comfortable, natural, like they’ve done it a million times before and will do it a million times again and again. -

Summary
Shino closed his eyes and focused on not vomiting again. He’d gotten pretty good at that over the years. He didn’t know how long Kiba was gone but he made quite the clatter on his way back. He sent a little chakra to his ears and could make out three sets of footsteps this time. That couldn’t bode well for him.
“Shino!” Kiba said as he skidded to a halt by his feet. “I’m back!”
“Okay,” he said.
“I brought friends! They can help!” Kiba gestured to two other kids. “The blond demon is Naruto, and the pink obsessed girl is Sakura.” Shino eyed Sakura’s pink bat with trepidation.
Naruto stepped up next to him and crouched down. Shino’s eyesight was getting worse and worse, but he could see blue eyes and scars. “What are you doing?” Naruto asked.
Shino almost chuckled but couldn’t find the energy. “Dying.”
“Sounds like a waste of time,” Sakura said distantly. She’d circled around to his other side and Shino couldn’t see both her and Naruto at once. He decided to keep looking at Naruto since it meant he didn’t have to turn his head.
“Depends on who you ask,” Shino eventually replied. -

Summary
Team 7 was nothing when they left the gates of Konoha with a bridge builder in tow. They were three children with minimal shinobi training and all of them with attitude problems. Their sensei was a lazy genius too heartbroken to give them the training they needed to advance beyond the static group of angry pre-teens that they were.
Kakashi was shown a glimpse of what Team 7 could be, when they fought Zabuza. He saw Sakura’s bravery as she continued to put her body between an attack and Tazuna. Saw Sasuke’s amateur but ingrained battle instincts keep him in the running during Haku’s fight. Saw Naruto’s indomitable Will of Fire when he managed to stop Zabuza and Haku in their tracks and then made them reconsider.
All four of them could feel something tighten around them, forging the first anchors for a true team bond that night on the bridge. It scared Sasuke and Kakashi in an equal amount as it gave Sakura and Naruto hope. Maybe they really could become a team in Konoha. Train side by side and grow together.
Team 7 didn’t make it back to Konoha for 6 months.
