wh- holy shit i didn't know i shipped them but i do now, they genuinely have so much in common?? i like akeshu too but it's almost always about "fixing him" yk less abt just seeing why he's this way and helping him heal from it, helping him into a mental space where he can ask for help, directly or otherwise

ren's sort of casual cruelty- i still don't think he fully realises the depths of the harm he's caused, no. idk how to explain my feelings here but i see parts of my own behaviour reflected in him, like, i really shouldn't be trying to make friends if i can't make the time for them or give them the care they deserve? sometimes (a lot of the time, i'm... really really bad at balancing things in my life) i get overwhelmed and drop whole chunks of my life entirely. also, should probably go through this again with ren in mind to see if i could learn a thing or two abt myself? who needs enemies when u have emotionally neglectful friends like me ._. ok veering off topic now i better cut it off here

“Maki,” he says again. “I think you’re my daughter.”

i tried to be vague enough but i don't think i succeeded
ao3 says that I've already left the kudos here but I don't remember doing it (was reading on entire work, currently up to chapter 49) I guess I'll just have to trust it
god the characterization in this one? ohh my god- okay top three characters i'll likely stay thinking about: probably yuuji (but i didn't realize it until we got a look into his mind, god he'll be so interesting on a re-read), mahito (has more depth than anyone gives him credit for, i always love it when sbd explores that. he's got sm personality, i wanna see him realise he's more than he thought too) (are we getting qpr mahikashi? idfk, i hope), mimiko tbh (we don't hear much out of her since she tends to defer to nanako for social stuff aside from suguru, we don't know how strongly she believes what she's been taught, she's reluctantly warming up to tsumiki, hoping to see how suguru plans to undo all the damage his teachings caused them- but at least they won't be alone for it. i think she'd change her mind abt non-sorcerers before nanako but wouldn't say anything about it until nanako does, bc she wouldn't want nanako to feel like she was getting abandoned even if just philosophically. they've been through enough)
if sukuna gets more (non-antagonistic) time with the family later on i think he might have a crisis over toge he's so much like- oh i guess yuuta too (mmmm gardener and the one named after a flower) (trying so hard to not name spoiler names but i love them)
to me sukuna is also the lonely shepherd boy, crying wolf to a village who's not listening- every good lie holds a fragment of truth, and sukuna's lies hold his life story... lol anw. i don't think i'll ever like a sukuna backstory as much as i like this one, ever. this is canon to me nowthis i believe is an author who desperately wants love/crush at first sight to exist. i swear the only person who might not have gotten their crush upon first convo in this story is megumi
