Caitlyn’s answer this time is much more hesitant, much quieter, the seconds dragging with nails digging into the dirt. And when she finally speaks, her words are fragile whispers that slip over the incline of her lips. Brittle enough to snap in half. “Answers. Closure.”

She almost doesn’t hear the actual answer. “And though I have no doubt a thousand people have given this answer before, I did nothing. I was doing my job, and then I was here. No trial. No sentencing. No crime to speak of.”

Vi is the head barista and part-time manager of The Last Drop, a coffee shop and café in Piltover. Caitlyn is a coffee-loving PhD student at the nearby university who spends every weekday working from her favorite table at The Last Drop. Despite an obvious attraction, the two women are immediately at odds with each other the moment their paths cross. Over time, they'll navigate past their differences and form a unique arrangement.
This is an enemies to friends with benefits to lovers arc set in a modern coffee shop/café AU. I am writing it specifically at the request of my wife, who has a thing for barista-centric fanfics and loves Caitlyn/Vi. Chapter titles are quotes from Arcane.

Ash eyes rake over her, face half lit by the pale green streetlight slicing across it. Vi’s lip quirks upward. Caitlyn feels like asking her to turn round again.
“And you’re absolutely certain this is necessary?” She asks instead before Vi can say something smart. Leather creases smooth under her pull, bunches upon release.
“Oh absolutely.”
Caitlyn could wring the sarcasm from that sentence. She wildly suspects she’s being taken for a ride. She can only hope that somewhere along the way she picks up a lead before she’s kicked off.

‘I promise you, Vi: she’s the real deal.’
Vi rocks back in her chair, folding her arms and pursing her lips. Her gut is normally trustworthy, and her gut is yelling at her to run the fuck away from this one.
But the tour is only days away. Tickets aren't selling, and from what she can see on social media it's because people are worried they're just going to cancel from the lack of a bass guitarist. Her options have been dwindling rapidly, and the only one she has left now is on her producer's desk, peering up at her from glossy stock paper, looking as unimpressed by the situation as Vi feels.
She rocks forwards again, staring hard at the image. This woman — this Caitlyn — is holding the guitar comfortably between her hands, her fingers are positioned correctly along its strings, and Vi supposes that perhaps it's not all carefully-styled bluster.
This is gonna be nothing but trouble, she thinks bitterly.

Oh, this was fucking perfect. Vi had been pissed since they had spotted the shiny, silver and blue bus that had “University of Piltover” painted on the side in neat font stopped on the side of the road with steam rolling out of the engine.
Vander and Ekko had gotten off to see if Ekko could help.
Ekko had gotten back on the bus after not very long, hollering over the music, which had gotten cranked since they were just sitting there, “yeah, they’re stuck. Radiator’s shot, it’ll need replacement parts and we’re nowhere near auto stores.”
There were a few groans of sympathy, despite the fact that the whole team knew the bus was full of a bunch of stuck up Pilties.
Vander wasn’t back on the bus yet, which meant…Vi didn’t know what.
“Hey, Mylo! Can you see him? What’s happening?”
“I don’t know. Oh, hold up. He just pointed at the bus! The fuck does that mean?”
Vi had a sneaking suspicion that whatever it meant, it was likely to make her day worse.

Caitlyn is the rifle team captain for the University of Piltover, Vi's the boxing team captain for Zaun U, and they hate each other...but they're stuck together until they get back home
