In 1989, Mike Wheeler heads to college, but instead of finding freedom, he’s consumed by loneliness and depression. Turning to alcohol and reckless behavior, he struggles to cope with the fear of his sexuality. In desperate attempt to prove himself, Mike is wreck less and careless. Weeks later when a girl named Ashley shows up with a positive pregnancy test, claiming he’s the father of her child, Mike’s world is shattered. After the birth Ashley disappears, he’s left alone to care for the baby, barely scraping by, struggling to afford food and balance overwhelming responsibilities. With his mental health crumbling, Mike doesn’t know how much longer he can keep going. -

Summary
Mike scowled at him, and before Will could react, Mike grabbed him by the shirt and planted a messy, paint covered kiss right on his cheek.
“Mike!” Will gaped, swiping at his face.
“Oops.” Mike grinned innocently. “Guess that’s what you get for putting paint on my nose.”
“Oh, you’re so dead,” Will said, and before Mike could escape, Will swiped his paintbrush across Mike’s cheek again, this time leaving a smear of green.

Summary

When they beat vecna and his army Mike thought he would be safe, then in the summer of 87’ he gets diagnosed with stage ll sarcoma cancer. He meets a boy in the hospital and finds love where he never expected. Then comes in Will Byers when he moves back to Hawkins.

Mike’s eyes burned with fresh tears. “Just drop it, Lucas,” he muttered, pulling his arm free.
“No!” Lucas’s voice cracked, and he grabbed Mike’s hand, holding it tightly. “Tell me who did this. Please.”
Mike’s resolve crumbled, and he lashed out, yanking his hand back. “Your stupid basketball friends, okay?” he shouted. “Your amazing, perfect friends beat the shit out of me!”

His eyes flicked back to the two boys.
They were still there, still wrapped up in each other, unaware that anyone else was watching.
Unaware of Mike, sitting alone on a park bench, yearning.
Longing for something that he was too much of a coward to have.
