The SOUL recognized most people in town, Kris quickly learned. It was already familiar with so many of the people Kris had known all their life. It even recognized people Kris did not know, and it failed to recognize people Kris did know.
Kris despised the fact they found interest in it, but truly, the SOUL was interesting, if only for what it did and did not know.

“I don’t know,” Shadow replied, getting off the bed and walking to the door. After hesitating, Shadow opened the door and followed the sounds down the hallway to the main entrance.
There were bolts of blue lighting dancing across the room, and guards went down left and right by something too fast for anyone to see. The guards fired into the room, panicked, but the blue blur of lighting was relentless and soon no one was left standing.
Shadow stood at the edge of the room, eyes and mouth agape as the blue blur finally stood still, standing over the unconscious guards. It was a hedgehog! It looked like–

Reopening the Mean Bean under the same name was a risk, he knew, but it was one of the only things he had left that wasn’t off-limits for fear of being discovered. Even if Green Hills was the home of the Blue Blur, he doubted G.U.N. was on the lookout for any trace of the Doctor after… all of that.
So he opened the doors of his cafe once more, and pretended that every cup of coffee he brewed didn’t remind him of what he’d lost.
