"Shit..." Rudo breathed, sweat stinging his eyes as it slipped down his face. He tightened his grip around Dear's wrist, forcing his aching fingers to hold on. The younger boy stared back up at him, bright blue eyes wide with worry as the darkness spread endlessly beneath them.
Dear slipped another inch, and Rudo's heart lurched. "Hang on," he grunted through clenched teeth. "I've got you."

Being with Hide had always been nice. Comfortable and safe, even. Some hidden wall of anxiety within him would melt away because of Hide’s presence and somehow everything was worthwhile by his side. He knew it was cheesy, but Hide had always been the sun, down to his bleached blond hair. They’d always been two opposites, but being around Hide had always been as easy as breathing. Even now after everything had changed and Hide had told him how he really felt. Any other friendship would have been dashed to pieces.
After Hide confessed to Kaneki, fully expecting his feelings to never be returned, Kaneki rethought the nature of their relationship. Even though Jason's torture left him broken and numb, he came to his answer and decided to act. After all, Christmas Eve was the most romantic day of the year and he refused to leave Hide hanging.

His new feeling was more of a conscious desire, but still from an origin beyond what Kaneki knew as human, from a place of a ghoul’s base instincts. It showed itself as a persistent craving for Hide, in a way that was more than just wanting him as a human to eat. It was a longing to put his mouth onto all of him, to take Hide’s body in every way that Kaneki, and only Kaneki, could. To bite into Hide as if it could express at least half of the energy that had built itself up within Kaneki towards him. To hold Hide with every limb and kagune appendage that he could so that nobody else could even think of touching him.

Kaneki experiences new and strong urges towards Hide, influenced by his ghoul status. Even when Kaneki fears he's undeserving of Hide's acceptance of him as he is, Hide continues to give it unconditionally.

“Would you… ever consider using your more…” It was different asking out loud. Not being certain of how Kaneki would respond made it more nerve-wracking than Hide had considered it would be, and the fear of it possibly causing a negative reaction almost outweighed the desire to know for sure.
“My…what? Is there something you’d like me to do, Hide?” Kaneki asked. “You know you can ask me anything.”
“Your more…” Hide broke eye contact. “…ghoulish parts?”

The difference in physical strength between Hide and Kaneki was staggering, and Hide wanted Kaneki to use that more. His mind kept imagining the possibilities of Kaneki using his ghoul capabilities on him, in the way that a ghoul could overpower a human as if they were prey.
