“You’re sending me on a two-man undercover,” Bucky says, helplessly, “staying in a vineyard retreat, alone, with Wilson.”
“Pack your swim trunks,” Daisy adds, “apparently it’s got a hot tub.”
Bucky looks at Sam. Sam looks back at Bucky. Sam’s arms are crossed over his chest, his forearms bare. Bucky carefully doesn’t look at Sam’s forearms, or the way his t-shirt is pulled tight over his shoulders, straining just a little at the seams. Bucky’s not looking at that at all. He makes eye contact, careful to keep his face neutral.
Sam’s eyes are soft and dark. Maybe a little amused. He has very long eyelashes.
Bucky swallows hard.
“Great,” he says. “That’s just— great.”

“Thanks, hon, you’re a real doll,” Bucky drawls, and pours himself another bowl of cereal, tops up his coffee, takes a mouthful of milk straight from the carton just for good measure. Sam narrows his eyes.
“That’s disgusting,” he sighs, and Bucky makes deliberate eye contact, swallows another mouthful. Sam holds his gaze. “Cupcake, come on, I gotta drink that shit, stop putting your mouth all over it.”
“I’ll put my mouth all over wherever I want,” Bucky tells him. “Sweetheart.”
“Will you just,” Sam mutters, and sips his black coffee like he’s totally unruffled, and Bucky is startled to discover that he’s the one who’s blushing. Shit. Maybe this was a tactical error.

It’s about your intention and your attention and your constant, constant need to embarrass me.”
Buck had to be dreaming. It couldn’t be real.
“I don’t care if it’s flowers, or nicknames, or hugs. I don’t care how you show me. I care that you care enough to show me. That’s what love is. That’s all that love is. I don’t think it really hit me until you texted me that you didn’t realise love could be friendship. I didn’t either. I thought love was… doing things right. Marriage and kids and tradition. But marrying a woman didn’t make me any less gay. Not kissing you for the last six years hasn’t made me any less in love with you. It isn’t finite like that. You were right, it’s all bullshit, misogynistic garbage because… I’ll take your love any way you let me have it.”
and Buck wasn’t a ghost anymore.

Despite that promise, the following shift they all had after Buck being wrung out, it happened.
“What in the hell is that?” Gerrard’s arms were folded, eyes narrowed, looking to all the world a villain from an 1800s children’s novel.
Eddie, who Buck had never seen quite so obviously looking to start something, turned on his heel from the coffee machine, the shadow of a smirk written across his face.
“What’s what?” Eddie asked coolly, as if he didn’t have a caterpillar crawling along his upper lip to match Gerrard’s.
OR - Eddie is a little unhinged since Christopher left. When Buck gets yelled at for having facial hair, Eddie makes a spectacle out of his own.

Maybe Eddie is just biased because he’s never been casual about Buck a single day in his goddamn life, but he’s not even sure if that’s possible. Whether it’s family, or friendship, or love, Buck is the kind of guy you’re all in with - the kind of guy who consumes your heart and fucking soul. There’s no such thing as no-strings-attached with Buck, no halfway, no casual. He’s an all or nothing kind of guy, and Eddie can’t imagine anyone would choose nothing when all is theirs for the taking.
