The door swung open with such force that it slammed against the wall inside.
Vi gasped, her heart shooting up in her throat.
“Oh my fucking-”
She snapped her head up, and her breath caught in her throat.
For a split second she was convinced she was going into cardiac arrest.
Because in front of her stood, towering in the door frame, stood the most beautiful woman Vi had ever seen.
Her navy hair was messy, strands falling haphazardly around her pale face, the rest pulled back into a loose high ponytail. Her startingly blue eyes were widened – sporting the exact same terror that threatened to stop Vi’s heart entirely and send her into an early grave - her mouth slightly agape as she looked down at the Vi crouching on the porch, clutching her makeshift lock pick.
She was tall - taller than Vi - and slender, with long, slim fingers.
Long, slim fingers wrapped around a rifle.
A rifle aimed directly at Vi’s chest.
The woman’s jaw snapped shut and she narrowed her eyes, fingers tightening around the rifle.
“May I ask why you’re attempting to break into my house?”

Explorations of Cait and Vi's turbulent relationship in the first act of season two. An examination of the grief that slowly poisons their understanding of each other; a reflection on power, and the ways it is abused, denied, and mismanaged. Less of a relationship study than a relationship autopsy.

Caitlyn’s jaw tightens at that, and for a moment, she’s silent — but her eyes don’t waver from Vi’s. “I think you’re scared because you can’t control this the way you can control a gym routine. ”
That hits closer than Vi wants to admit. Something flashes across her face, quick and sharp, and she hates that Caitlyn notices.
“Respectfully,” Vi mutters, shoulders squaring, “you don’t know a damn thing about me.”
“Respectfully,” Caitlyn echoes without missing a beat, “I do not think you would want me to.”

Dr. Kiramman steers her through the chaos and plants her in a chair. Does something to her arm that hurts like fuck, then drapes her in bags of ice and wraps her in a sling. Blinds her with a pen light—“Called it,” she mumbles when he confirms she’s concussed—and presses two pills and a warm mug into her hand. It smells herbaceous. Familiar.
“I brought the good stuff from home,” Dr. Kiramman confesses, and it takes her a moment to understand he means tea. “Extra honey for you. I know you haven’t acquired the taste.”
He’s right in that she only actually drank it once, the first time it was offered—the afternoon they spoke to the Council, several lifetimes ago. But she tasted it just this morning in Caitlyn’s mouth, grassy and sweet. So she pops the pills and takes a sip. Tries not to think about whether that terrified kiss over breakfast was their last. “I want to see her.”
After the war, Vi and Cait recover, and rebuild.

She must stand there for longer than appropriate because an elderly woman eventually steps through the door and greets her with a warm smile, “Hello, dear. Is there something I can help you with?”
There is no malice in her voice, no hidden accusation or anger about Vi, an obvious Zaunite, standing in front of this fancy place. It should make her feel good but at this time, it only confuses her all the more.
“I was looking for Caitlyn Kiramman. Isn’t this–” Vi stops because she knows that this is supposed to be Caitlyn’s home. “Doesn’t she live here anymore?"
The woman’s face falls for the shortest of seconds before another, smaller smile crosses her face. “Oh, honey. You’ve been gone for a while, haven’t you?”
Vi frowns. “Yeah. Why?”

Vi breaks Jinx out of the bunker and leaves with her. Returning 'home' after almost a year leaves her with more questions than answers and the only person who can answer any of them seems to have dropped off the face of Runeterra.

“I'm right here, Vi.” Unconsciously, Caitlyn felt her hand moving across the sheets to interlace her fingers in Vi's.
For the first time, Vi's gaze locked onto her, and instead of the joy or recognition Caitlyn was hoping to see, she was met with a blank stare.
When Vi opened her mouth, Caitlyn's heart stopped as the cold realisation sank into her bones.
Vi's words hit her like a punch to the gut.
“Who the fuck are you?”

Vi scoffed and stomped forward, the gravel crunching beneath her feet as she approached Caitlyn, who looked up at her with an empty, disinterested expression.
She stopped right in front of her, chest puffed out, voice dripping with venom.
“Good lord, Kiramman, maybe pace yourself for once. What’s the plan? Smoke yourself into an early grave so we don’t have to deal with you anymore?”
Caitlyn’s head jerked slightly, her features a cool mask of indifference.
“Though I am flattered by your concern," she said icily, taking a slow, deliberate drag from her cigarette, “I assure you that I am perfectly capable of handling myself, thank you very much.”
“Oh, yeah? Is that why you’re here?”
Caitlyn slightly perked one of her eyebrows. The look on her face made Vi immediately feel incredibly stupid and childish.
“No. I am here to smoke a cigarette. In peace. Why are you here?”

A few months after the war, Vi asks Caitlyn to give her a haircut, and Caitlyn grapples with change, particularly, how Vi was changing.

Caitlyn glances out Vi’s window as they emerge from another cloud. Hopes to glimpse the sun setting behind the coastal mountains, their silhouetted peaks framed by brilliant orange and yellow and gold, their shadows crawling east across the clouds. Instead she sees a barricade of emerald green and midnight blue and charcoal gray unfurling as it hurtles toward them. A vertical ocean of swirling waves stretching in every direction, illuminated by bursts of lighting.
“Vi?”
Vi looks over. Snaps her head back to look again. “A supercell?” The color drains from her face. “Where did–” Caitlyn feels a shudder run through the floor. Through her boots. Up her seat. Up her spine. Vi clutches the yoke, fights the tremors. The hull shudders again. And again. Starts to shake, the rattles building and building and building until Caitlyn is bouncing off of her seat, fingernails clawing into the cushion.
...
Survival Adventure AU. Caitlyn and Vi are separated when their plane crashes in the snowy mountains. They must learn to survive the frigid winter as they find their way back to each other in more ways than one.
