Ed tightens his grip on the sword, unable to understand, unable to do anything but understand. He thinks the same horrified wounded animal that screams inside of him is inside of Stede right now, too, begging to be fed.
“But if I’m not that for you,” Stede says, and tilts the sword up just a little bit, until the point brushes the bob of his throat as he speaks. “Then you can kill me now. Because I came here for you, and I’ve got nothing else but you. So, if you won’t have me, just kill me.”
or: stede comes back to the revenge, sees the absolute mess ed has made of himself, and decides there's nothing he won't do to make him happy again.
