Kaminari’s penchant for brightly colored bracelets that line his wrists and forearms just seemed like another symptom of his bright personality. Too bright… if you asked Bakugou. But his opinion of Kaminari was permanently molded into a solid Before and After. Before he’d presumed the boy was naive and dumb, all of his bright smiles and mischief stemming from some sort of boundless fountain of energy within. After… he knew better.
Todoroki had noticed the boy at first as something of an irritation. Loud and bright and shining like the sun. But somehow, that irritation had eventually died and he’d been left with an admiration… and a craving. If only he could be so bright. If Todoroki wanted to bask in that sun… it was a secret he kept close to his heart. So perhaps that was why, when he began to understand that the sun was hiding something behind it… Todoroki wanted to reach for the sun… if only to make sure the clouds never touched it again.
Or... Kaminari doesn't realize his secret has gotten out and he can't figure out why everyone is suddenly being extra nice to him.

The words might have been true, but it felt so much worse hearing them from the very person Denki wanted to see him differently. But he was joking. Was he? He had to be. Because it was funny. So Denki smiled. Because it was funny. And it didn’t hurt.

Denki Kaminari knows he's a failure. Everyone knows it. Even, unfortunately, a certain explosive hero-in-training whom Denki has more-than-friendly feelings for. But when his own stupidity ends up turning him victim to a harmful quirk, he's forced to either push away his thoughts (and with them the people he needs most), or deal with the reality that his insecurities are the only things keeping him from happiness.

“Why do you want to be a hero, Kaminari?” Mic’s voice is gentle, as if he’s afraid to break whatever somber mood has settled over them as well.
Kaminari looks down, into the sea of people walking so far below them. Kaminari can’t hear them, can barely make out their faces, even. But, he can imagine what they’re doing. Adults walking to and from work, or the store running errands. Some laden with bags, others with briefcases. Teenagers and kids walking home from school, stopping at corner stores and arcades to hang out longer with their friends. Families walking downtown, children in the middle, clutching their parent’s hands and laughing in joy. Everyone living their lives, in their own bubbles, going about their day. Kaminari can feel himself smiling as he observes them.
Or, Kaminari interns with Present Mic. It goes better than Kaminari could have ever hoped.
