Prowl was not petty. He did not bother with trivial things like gossip.
However, he was also not so much of a coward as to go running to Prime the second someone tried messing with him. He could handle a few wayward pranksters. So long as he didn't give them the reaction they wanted so badly, they would soon lose interest, and he could get back to performing his duties.
(Or, Prowl threatens a fellow Autobot with bodily harm, and is completely justified in doing so.)

Alright, look, Thundercracker couldn’t say he actually knew what was going on.
But he could assume. Holy slag could he assume. He could make guesses all the live-long day, and here's the thing, he'd probably be correct more often than not. Sure, it was never good to pass judgement without knowing the whole story. But there were only so many times you could catch your sort-of-boss chatting up some pretty-looking mech and very clearly aiming for their panels before you started assuming the worst every time.

The voice sounded from behind him, and it made Skyfire jump, because his first thought was a baffled how did they know?? Then he realized it was probably incredibly obvious.
(or, Skyfire goes to a fancy party he technically wasn't invited to, is never told what an important figure looks like and therefore doesn't recognize him on sight, rambles about plants, nearly has a panic attack, and falls in love, all in the span of about an hour. Basically, it's a very eventful night for the poor mech.)
