Xie Lian is trapped in a bottle.
This is, to be frank, not the first, second, or even third time this has happened to him. Bottles are incredibly convenient little tools, and happen to work very well at holding tiny creatures such as faeries. He’s only about half as tall as a stick of incense, after all, so it’s the perfect size to hold him.
By this point, he’s just thankful the bottle in question doesn’t stink of old wine.
It even has a spell or enchantment of some sort to keep Xie Lian from easily breaking free! That’s more than most can be bothered to spare for a tiny, powerless, wingless sprite. More often than not, he’s treated with the grace of a pest and tossed outside once caught.
It seems his captors, whoever they are, have a mistaken impression as to the value of a bottled faerie - even a disgraced former Noble of the Seelie Court like himself. He is, at most, worth half a stale bun. Maybe an especially shiny rock if haggled well enough.

This is a story where Xie Lian ascended, as per his unlucky fashion, in the middle of a tangled situation in the Heavens. A Fox Spirit causes more trouble than it should for the all powerful Gods, causing them to fall into a great deal of depression and humiliation. Imagine that.
So, now that Jun Wu’s favourite has returned, the task falls right into his hands. And his holy being, right onto the fox’s paw.But, Xie Lian can’t help but wonder…why does this fox act so sweetly to him, when it mercilessly terrorised the others?
And He Xuan also wonders if Hua Cheng went mad, because why else would he impersonate a Fox Spirit when he’s an all powerful 800 years old, Ghost King?
Well, some of his debt is off anyway.

With a small sigh, the ghost took a strand between his fingers and played with it, rolling its ends over the red threaded finger. The white band that kept a portion of Xie Lian’s hair tied in the back was brought forward by the delicate movements and it too got entangled in the other’s hand. As Hua Cheng saw the white band snaking through his fingers his eye creased with longing.

In the effort to keep his mission going, things get unexpectedly steamy but when Xie Lian’s identity is brusquely revealed it is met with nothing short of anguish by Crimson Rain Sought Flower.
