Thankfully, none of them seemed to suspect my involvement in his skill decrease. While I wanted them all to be aware that crossing me had bad consequences, it was best to let them believe that I had not interfered in the trials I had set him. I had every right to do so, of course, being the king, but some of them may not see it that way, just as some of them complained whenever I dominated a game using my kingly powers.
It was unfair how some of them judged me, but that was sometimes the way of things. A king’s burden was truly heavy at times. I had to do what was best for everyone, even if they couldn’t see it.

If you like this kind of story you’re probably desperate enough to check every new one out, if you don’t, I know there is nothing at all I can say to convince you to read this one, and if you don’t know what a reaction fic is and simply start this one out of curiosity , I might be the one to drag you into this rabbit hole.
If that’s the case, I am deeply sorry, and good luck. It’s pretty hard to leave this trope behind once you’re into it.

John doesn’t remember dying, not really anyway.
He remembers pain. He remembers fear, a lot of fear, and probably not for the reasons he should—he’s never been afraid of dying, no, but he was afraid of dying with unfinished business. The thought of dying with things unsaid, pleasures unexperienced, L.T.s unfucked—and maybe that last one took up more space in his mind than it should—that’s what scared him.
So no, John doesn’t remember dying. He does remember how he felt before, and he sure as hell remembers what happened after.
