Charles Bingley takes residence of Netherfield Park for one reason: to give his friend Darcy a peaceful sanctuary after a brutal year. After Wickham’s scheme was revealed, Georgiana’s attempted suicide left her crippled and catatonic. Darcy, blaming himself, fell into self-destructive despair that even his closest friend could not break through. It is only when Darcy is alone in the countryside near Meryton that he finds a reason to hope: a beautiful young woman, walking alone, who he deliriously thinks is an angel. Another imagining of the final chapters of Pride and Prejudice.
In this variation, Elizabeth never hears the truth of Darcy’s involvement in Lydia and Wickham’s wedding from Lydia or the Gardiners, and Lady Catherine never comes to call. Instead, Elizabeth and Darcy must resolve their feelings without this external assistance. And when Darcy and Bingley come to call at Longbourn, a suggestion from Mrs. Bennet that they go walking leads to an earlier and more open conversation between Elizabeth and Darcy.

Following the Netherfield Ball, Mr Collins happily gossips in a letter to Lady Catherine that her that her nephew may be on the verge of matrimony… to Miss Bingley. He overheard his cousins talking of the lady’s attentions and quite misconstrued everything. Lady Catherine, as incensed as she could ever be, goes to confront her nephew in London… and arrives in the middle of the ‘Why You Should Not Marry Jane Bennet’ intervention.
Yelling ensues. And maybe more than one instance of self-reflection.
