Summary
It wasn’t a stirge or a deathfang, Gale choking down a gasp at the humanoid figure madly lapping and guzzling the bowl of blood. It was a vampire.
When Gale becomes aware of a creature targeting the infestation of necrotic rats plaguing his store, his eager brain fixates on the question of what being would willingly consume such pests.
His answer of a feral vampire spawn would only leaves him with an overabundance of academic questions and emotional complications.

As their little cat hearts grow closer, Gale is forced to confront whether he was truly as bad of a cat as Mystra always told him.

“Dekarios?” Pale brows arch as darkly lined green eyes peek at him over microscopic glasses.
“And who might be asking?” His aggravation has slipped further into bafflement at such obvious flaunting of the university’s good sense dress code. Even with a fully covered stomach, to Gale’s mind, those trousers should be at least one size larger to be acceptable for their academic setting. No one with any amount of decency should be comfortable with their thighs displayed so in the hallowed institution of learning that is BGU.
With pink glossed lips setting themselves into a sneer, the dreaded response is given with ease. “Astarion Ancunìn, obviously. You are aware you had a new teaching assistant arriving today, yes?”
“Yes, of course. Though I rather thought that said teacher’s assistant would see fit to arrive before all of our students,” Gale attempts to say with any measure of good manners.
A lonely professor of Netherese History at Baldur’s Gate University and his teaching assistant stumble their way through the clumsy beginning of their relationship. -

For all of the creature’s offense, it stays bundled in Gale’s hair. In addition to its rapid trusting of him, its possible intelligence based on its reactions to his own words, Gale can’t shake from his mind the timing of its arrival. During his usage of magic for more nefarious aims, not before nor after.
“Would you happen to be a familiar?” Gale queries. “Perhaps to a wizard of similar moral darkness?”

Summary
Like most of Gale’s problems since the Nautiloid, this whole mess is Tav’s fault. He doesn’t know exactly what Tav told Astarion when Gale was out of the room, but he trusts that they didn’t betray his confidence. Probably.
Whatever it is has made Astarion act even stranger than normal and it is threatening Gale’s very carefully curated compartmentalization of his feelings for the man.

Strange how after he spoke, the world around him stopped. The hare was frozen, the environment around Gale completely silent. Like being in an anechoic chamber. He could hear his own heart beating, his lungs breathing. Gale looked around him, confusion etched on his face.
