Summary
"But that would require putting into words this gaping wound in Paul Baker's chest that he's been desperately trying to fill in for years now. To name it would make it undeniable. Something that actually matters to him, that makes him less than this easily tamed stray that people keep taking in. Just loveable enough that he's always given a home eventually because he's so wonderfully house trained."

Summary
“I just—I don’t want you to be alone,” said Eddie, softly, like an admission.
Join the fucking club, Buck thought. It was funny, but none of his laughs were coming out right tonight. “I am alone, Eddie.”
“Buck, I—”
“She wants my kidney.” There it went; Buck never could keep anything inside. Could never keep the feelings contained, could never stop them from spilling out over the people nearest him. “That’s what fucking happened, okay? My dad needs a kidney donor and they remembered why they bothered having me in the first place. Is that what you wanted to hear? That my parents finally found a use for me after all these years?”
-----
A request from his mom tears open old wounds for Buck. From 800 miles away, Eddie tries to stitch him back together.

Eddie had thought for the longest time that complicated was how things were supposed to be. "Of course it’s hard, Eddie," Adriana had said. "Love isn’t meant to be easy. Nothing that’s worth it is easy."
This felt worth it and it was as easy as breathing.

It's been two months since we last left off and both Buck and Eddie are in for an adventure as they navigate being in a not-relationship (situationship, if you ask Buck) and working together at the same fire station.

Summary
Sydney thinks that if she found out she was pregnant a little earlier she probably wouldn’t have gone through with it. Like, if she found out before her landlord changed the locks on her apartment, or before the bank sent her all those red letters, or before the pasta dried up, she’d probably have just taken herself to Planned Parenthood, popped the pills and charged it to the game. But as it is, the two blue lines appear on the stick during the worst months of her life, the first months of the pandemic when she’s unemployed and shit scared that her dad is going to get coronavirus and die. And when she sees them, she just thinks: well, this might as well happen. She was a disappointment before. What’s one more thing?
Before she meets Carmy, Sydney has a baby.

Summary
As it turns out, no one ever taught Luke how to tie a little green baby to his back one-handed, but Luke thinks he's pretty gods-damned good at problem-solving under pressure, thank you, and the baby is at least semi-cooperative. When he's sure the kid is strapped in as tight as he can get, Luke pauses, and reaches back. His fingers graze the wide point of the baby's fuzzy ear. "Well, kid," says Luke, and his voice is a little rough, but not bad, all things considered. "Carrying you on my back while getting the absolute banthashit kicked out of me, at least this feels familiar."
The baby coos in his ear, and then kicks him hard in the kidney. Yoda used to do the exact same thing. Somehow, it's a lot more endearing now.
Or: Luke Skywalker solves a number of life-or-death problems, makes some new friends, falls abruptly in love, and gets shot into space, all in the same day.

(I am the one who says 'fuck you') - Benjamin Garcia, 'Ode to the Corpse Flower'.
Petunia drips magic the way she drips anger. Sparingly. Subtly. Nothing overt or obnoxious. Nothing that attracts the stares of other children or the suspicion of adults. Just things that help her. Her dolls line back up after the football Lily was kicking about ruins their perfect symmetry. Her bed makes itself while she brushes her teeth meticulously. Tea that is slightly too hot or too cold settles to the perfect temperature. Magic maintains the realm of order she has built around herself.

Summary
The day you get the most important email of your life, there’s a new black skidmark on the wall of the stairwell, and you know exactly whose fault it is.
“Margaret,” you intone to the harried, wild-haired woman in the lobby.
She sighs at you as she tries to jimmy her mail key loose. “I know.”
It wouldn’t even be that bad if the kid would just skateboard outside. Or get good at skateboarding. Either of those things. Maggie’s a nice lady, though, and she’s had “trying my best” scribbled all over her since they moved into 6B maybe eight years ago. So you try not to be a dick, even if her son is a gold-standard pain in the ass. He’s good for three things: smells, noise, and reminding you how big Eddie must be by now.- Language:

Summary
Sansa finds it difficult to look at Jon’s face, with its weathered lines and cragginess. It is the face of the North and a face that northerners trust; the face of Sansa’s brothers and her father, who had been loved and respected by their tenants as their forefathers had been when they were kings. How can Sansa feel anything but resentment, looking into that face and knowing that all of her years of hard work will never earn her the respect that that profile engenders within seconds?
But she does. It is a small, burning coal of something that must be smothered.

Summary
The night the Physical Kids’ Cottage burns down, Quentin is alone in his room, sulking. He could have been at the party downstairs. He’d been invited to the party downstairs. But ever since the... incident with Eliot, things have been weird between them. Quentin hadn’t wanted to mope around the edges of the room and pine for simpler days. And so he’s alone, forced to escape through his bedroom window, as the magical flames tear the Cottage down to the studs.
In the aftermath, Quentin, Eliot and the other Physical Kids are left to pick up the pieces, both literally and metaphorically, of what happened that night. And in Quentin’s case, of what happened months earlier, when he’d humiliated himself and lost the closeness of the most important friendship of his adult life.
Luckily, even if things can never go back to the way they were, that doesn’t mean they can’t be fixed. And in the meantime, there’s a shortage of bedrooms on campus in the absence of the Cottage...

Summary
“You don’t have to apologize. I just wanted you to know,” Eliot says softly, once Quentin can breathe again, once he’s stopped leaking all over everything, himself and the grass and Eliot. “You deserve to know you’re loved.”
“I don’t think– I can’t be anyone’s boyfriend right now, Eliot,” and somehow it hurts more to say it now than it had to say it to Alice. But Eliot just smiles, sad but real, and reaches out to smooth Quentin’s hair off his face. It’s too short to hook behind his ear, but Eliot keeps petting him anyway. It feels nice. Grounding.
The Monster is gone, but that doesn't mean everything's okay. It's not. But maybe Quentin and Eliot can learn to be.
