Summary
Bucky’s memory was shit on the best of days, held together by routine, mission objectives, trauma and duct tape. Sometimes, it crapped out on him completely, leaving him to piece together the details of his life from context clues and observation.
He always thought fortune had a personal vendetta against him, so it was surprising to discover he’d somehow managed to snag the affections of a beautiful man with soft hair and a killer ass. Summary
Jared had never picked up a hitch-hiker before. He’s spent the last five years behind the wheel of a semi-truck, looking down the endless black ribbon road like the barrel of a gun. This was his job – his life. It’s when he’s passing through Loveland, Colorado, a few weeks into the haul, that he sees him; sitting on the side of Route 287, a few scarce fingers from the yellow line dividing him from the wandering shoulder to Limbo, USA and instantaneous death. His thumb pokes out of a hole in his ratty black gloves, arms covered in flannel and denim, and his whole body is strapped under worn, beaten overalls. The line of his legs, constantly stepping backwards, becomes fractured at the calf where steel-toe boots begin.

If the whole road trip idea reeks of Steve's star-spangled, idealistic nonsense, that's because it was, in fact, his suggestion. How did Steve put it? Bond, heal, fucking kumbaya their way across the country. Tony has no clue how he agreed to this. Must have blacked it out.
Tony and Bucky go on a road trip. It goes about as well as you'd expect. A slow crawl through emotional quicksand.
