    Summary

Buck woke up to a cold bed, and for a moment, his sleep-deprived mind thought he was still in the loft, until he looked up and saw stars. They were small, glow-in-the-dark and softly lit in the dim morning sun. Chris had begged for them, and when Buck and Eddie finally surrendered, they hung them above his bed and then he’d insisted that Eddie’s room have some too. He squinted, the stars coming into view as he did, and he smiled, until the events of the night slowly sharpened into focus along with the shapes.

    Summary

They’re halfway down the block when Buck freezes.

Eddie feels it immediately, the sudden stop tugging at his arm. “Buck—”

    “Cat,” Buck breathes.

    Eddie follows his gaze.

There, perched on a low stone wall, is a scruffy little grey cat, tail flicking lazily, yellow eyes fixed directly on Buck.

Buck gasps like he’s just seen a miracle. “Oh my god. Hi.”

Before Eddie can say a word, Buck is already moving, crouching down slowly, hands out. “Hey, buddy. Hey. You’re okay.”

Eddie pinches the bridge of his nose. “Buck. We’re already late.”

“I know, I know,” Buck says absently, eyes never leaving the cat. “Just—just one second.”

    or,
buck loves petting stray animals, eddie just loves him, which leads to them getting 3 cats?

    Summary

Buck hears the word once — in the wrong moment, in the wrong state of mind — and it sinks its teeth in. What should have been a passing comment twists into a truth he can’t shake, convincing him that everyone in his life is worn down by the weight of him. As he withdraws, slipping further into a quiet, dangerous spiral, the people who love him fight to remind him of one thing he can’t see on his own: he was never exhausting… only terrified of being left behind.

Exhausting (adj.): not someone who is too much to love — but someone too important to lose.

    Summary

Eddie moved closer, and Buck’s knees buckled.

He caught him before he hit the ground.

Buck collapsed into Eddie’s arms like a man who had been holding himself together with string and tape and sheer willpower. His body was cold, bruised, trembling. Eddie could feel the ridges of bone through his shirt, the rawness of broken pride.

    OR

After the lawsuit Buck is lost.
