Designed to End is a NieR: Automata fanfiction set before the events of the game, following 2B, 9S, and A2 as their paths take them towards the event of Yoko Taro's master work. This fanfiction contains smut, violence, plenty of existential angst, as well as massive spoilers for the whole game. As such, reader discretion is STRONGLY advised.

Despite this, however, the two androids ultimately decide to take up their offer to test out their facilities for free in the name of peace among inorganic lifeforms.
However, things take a very unexpected turn when they quickly realize that this is no ordinary hotel.

Once upon a 9S’s lifetime, 2B made her lover a promise: to revive him after the war ends. So she buried his deactivated body under the guise of execution, awaiting the joyous day she will greet him once more.
Fast forward to peacetime. 2B’s unfulfilled promise continues to niggle at her even as she settles into a new life alongside 9S’s final incarnation. Noticing her preoccupation, 9S reluctantly offers to help her out. But his intense misgivings are realised when his past self rises from the grave, all too eager to usurp him and claim 2B for himself.
