“Legundo?”
A sense of brief panic hit him, his voice had betrayed his concern, was the vampire here not the doctor? If it was Avid or Pyro, Owen needed to run now or he would not be surviving the night.
A rumbled voice, low and calm, filtered through the silence and Owen’s worries quickly ceased.
“I’m here.”
“Why don’t you show yourself, doc? I’d prefer to talk face-to-face.”
The silence pricked at Owen’s ears - or maybe that was the chilled night air - when the doc took a little longer than he’d liked to respond. The steps had stopped.

The town has been rallying against the growing vampire forces.
Owen decides he needs to talk to the Doctor.

“There’s a man, living out in the woods.”
“What?” Legundo asked, startled and not understanding. “Ren? Or, I thought Sausage was building inside of the town—“
“No, someone we don’t know,” Avid said, and now Legundo could see the genuine worry in Avid’s eyes. “Pearl and Pyro ran into him when they were on their way to town— over by the tower, in the middle of the lake,” and already that seemed so long ago, although it was only the day before. “He was cutting down the tree, and uh. I don’t know, isn’t that weird?” Avid asked, his voice pitching up plaintively on the end under Legundo’s silent regard.

"Tell me, do your friends know where you are?”
Legundo didn’t answer. He simply swallowed, conscious of the fact that Scott could hear every mechanism and sound of his body, from the thud of his heart to the damp rasp of his palms as he clenched his fingers. He wondered if he could hear the creak of his joints, as Legundo shifted backwards away from that cold hand. If he did, he paid it no mind, the fingers on his chin instead sliding down to Legundo’s collar, where his starched coat hung open, showing the lacings of his shirt underneath.
There was skin there, between the cloth, and Legundo felt the tickling sharpness of claws against him as the fingers paused their journey. It was like being brushed with the tip of an icicle— cold, pointed. Legundo shivered, and flushed in embarrassment at the chuckle it brought from Scott, who stepped closer. He could hear air move now, and for a moment he was at a loss as what Scott could be doing since vampires didn’t need to breathe—
Until he realized Scott was smelling him.
(Or; Legundo gets bit by EVERY Vampire at some point or another, for varying reasons.)

Summary
Legundo recalled Ren, Martyn, and Sausage's retelling of their encounter with Pyro. The way Pyro reacted and the fear he held for the apparently elder vampire. Scott was the main thing between them and curing most, if not all, of the unwilling vampires.

“Legs…” the bat crooked out, half conscious, and Legundo froze. It was unmistakably Owen's voice.

But then Scott stopped talking, and Pyro quickly followed suit. The nobleman’s nose scrunched up, his now pointier ears (seriously, how had nobody noticed that? He wasn’t crazy! They just refused to look!) twitched. All that Avid could hear was his own heartbeat. He wasn’t breathing, he wasn’t moving. He refused to let out a single sound. He wasn’t ready, not to go against two of them. Maybe if he’d just come across one of them by themselves, he could have… surely if it was Pyro. Scott he was far more afraid of.
“It sounds like we have company”. Following Scott’s words, everything moved in slow motion. The vampire’s head turned, their eyes locked together, and then Avid was running.
He didn’t know where he was going. There was nowhere for him to run. He was far away from town, outside of any proper path, and, most importantly, nobody believed him. Nobody had tried going after him. He had no allies left. Nobody would have known if he had died.
Avid was going to die.
