Jon wouldn’t say he’s happy, what with Martin being so upset, but his concern is underpinned by how strangely good it feels to be able to have hard days in the normal way; to lament bad weather and wet socks; to have problems that are nothing a lazy night in and good company won't fix. They fought so hard, to have days like this.
or: Martin has a day as mundane as it is long. Jon rises to the occasion.

The sun blazes a sharp orange in the sky above her, and its sunbeams fall straight into her eyes, poking dizzying iridescent spots into the corners of her vision. Chris blinks a few times and then thinks to herself that trying to look at this world in its entirety is almost too much, like someone turned up the saturation in her vision, splashed a bucket of jarring technicolor paint over the pale yellow and gray-blue of the oceans she knew back home.
Basically: it feels like some weird-as-fuck Wizard of Oz bullshit.-
Or: Chris comes back to the Irons, and finds who she was before.

Juno is nine years old and he feels like half of himself is missing. It’s been thirty-nine days since Juno has seen Benzaiten and he feels like he is going to explode. He’s a resourceful kid, at least that’s what the caseworker lady said, and he is not gonna cry. He’s gonna find Benzaiten and they’re gonna live together and take care of each other like Ma said to, no matter what.
Just as soon as the rain stops.

He was struck, all at once, by the near-impossibility of the moment, of the impossibility of a fresh start, spread out perfectly before him. Jon didn’t deserve a fresh start, didn’t deserve this idyllic scene, this warm morning in Scotland. He turned from where he was staring out of the windshield to glance at Martin, sitting beside him.
Jon didn’t deserve Martin, either.
But he was here, in the car with him; just like the cottage was there before them, quiet and unassuming in the protection- the home, a hopeful voice whispered in the back of Jon’s head- it offered, and Jon couldn’t bring himself to push any of it away.
