Eddie runs his hands up over the V of Richie’s hips, over the knife scar his dad gave him when he was drunk and Richie was thirteen, over his broad pecs and the wet chest hair, over his shoulders that drive Eddie to the edge of insanity, and they rest on his neck.
Eddie pushes up and latches on to Richie’s bottom lip, kissing and gnawing at it like a last meal.

He pushed his nose into the soft skin under his jaw, soft prickles itching his face and smoke mixed with a distant smell of plain white soap filling his nose. Richie placed his joint-free hand on the middle of Eddie’s back, just resting there as a heavy solid pressure, and started his story from the top. They weren’t, like, together, but this had always been a bit of a thing for them, the closeness.

Some things he settles into easily. Life with Richie, for one. A morning routine adjusted to accommodate a warm, large body nuzzling into him from behind. Stubble against his cheek and the crisp scent of cologne. Dishes in the sink that aren’t immediately cleaned. Shirts in Eddie’s drawers that are just a little too big in the shoulders. He adjusts to that. He adjusts to waking up in Chicago, in the apartment he shares with Richie with the beautiful west-facing windows and the sunset he gets to watch every night. He adjusts to working from home and he adjusts to the doorbell ringing and bringing warm friends into his home and he adjusts to being kissed every night before he goes to bed and feeling like it means something. These things he falls into quite easily. Like his new body knows that these are the things he didn’t have but longed for, for many years.
Spring comes. Eddie Kaspbrak continues to live.

Eddie grows accustomed to kissing Richie on what has to be an average of at least a hundred times a day. He gets so used to it that, when Richie leaves for New York to be the guest star on some late show, Eddie can’t figure out why he’s having such a difficult time falling asleep until it dawns on him that he only kissed Richie twice this morning before Richie boarded his plane.
Eddie calls to tell him that, late at night after the show has already ended. He’s not surprised when Richie starts laughing, after Eddie tells him. Richie laughs so hard that Eddie hangs up on him, and when he calls back ten seconds later, he’s still giggling across the line.
“It’s not that funny,” Eddie snaps.
“It’s a little funny,” Richie pushes, still laughing but easy as ever. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you liked me, Edward F. Kaspbrak.”

It’s been three months now since Eddie moved onto the property given to him in his grandfather’s will. He’d been going through a bit of a crisis at the time, having just broken off his 3-year engagement with Myra and realized he was gay and quit his job. Everything had been very bad at the time, but Eddie had been high on the adrenaline of making drastic life choices. What he should have done, probably, was sell the property and the farmhouse and then used that money to restart his life in the city, where he had prospects and applicable skills. But instead he packed up his shit and moved to Derry, population almost-zero, to the farm he spent his summers on until his dad died and hasn’t seen since then, deciding to...become a farmer. Or something.
