Draco bit back a scoff. “You actually want to bet something the first time you play?”
“Afraid you’ll lose to me like you do to Hermione?” The darkness in Tom’s eyes deepened as he glanced at the witch appraisingly.
“Please, I’m merely concerned you’ll be a sore loser. Not having much experience with it on the whole.” He smiled fawningly but gave it a bit of teeth. “The first time might sting.”
“Is that so?” His words were so low, Draco barely registered them. “Well, if you're so confident, Malfoy, let’s make this interesting.” Tom’s gaze pierced Hermione. “If I win, I get her. For the night.”

Thrown back to 1944 with power that answers to nothing she was ever taught, she does the only thing she knows how to do: she survives. She claims the name of an extinct pureblood line. She buries herself in alchemy, chasing a way back to the time she knew.
She doesn't notice, not at first, how many of the doors opening for her lead straight back to Tom Riddle.
He wants her. Not her hand, not her heart, just her mind, her power, her name. She tells herself that's the only thing he'll ever get.
She's wrong about that too.
