It took Rumi a year to be able to summon her weapon from the Honmoon. She was the fastest hunter to have done so as far as anyone knew. Mira took four years, too closed off from anyone and everyone to summon it easily. Zoey sat around the average, taking three years to have done so.
Bobby did it instinctively without even trying.

Summary
Rumi dragged a hand down her face. She hadn’t even meant to hide this.
Not like she’d hidden the patterns. It just hadn’t come up, and she was a private person anyway, and she wasn’t just going to bring it up out of nowhere. Besides, hiding the patterns had made it easy. The hoodies, the bathhouse, the carefully designed costumes…they all worked for more than one thing.
She didn’t want to miss Zoey and Mira anymore. Sure, they’d always have their own things. That was obvious. But she wanted to be part of their lives again. Wanted them to be part of hers.

mira nods slowly as she puts the order through on the screen, finding it oddly difficult to navigate through the screen menus all of a sudden.
“do you want that as a small or large?”
“a large, please.”
the girl brings an arm up to brush a stray lock of her lilac hair out of her face. mira bites down hard on her lip to keep herself from letting out a noise. the girl’s bicep flexed as her arm moved, squeezing as her elbow bent until it relaxed fully as her arm came down. how is she supposed to remain normal about that?

the one where mira works at a café and forgets how to act when a certain customer with cute lilac hair and tattoos, and super buff arms, shows up.

She had the urge to call the whole thing to a stop, but held those words behind her teeth. Instead, she reached for the comfort of Mira's hand. Mira, seated on a chair next to the tattoo bench, took Rumi's hand in hers without even looking up from her book. She squeezed tight. "You got this, Ru," she said, her voice steady and soft. "I'll be here the whole time, ok?"
Rumi nodded and returned Mira's squeeze. She latched onto those words, using them to anchor her resolve once more. The machine wasn't going to hurt her, and the pain couldn't be that bad. Sure, it would hurt, but tattoos seemed common now. If the pain was really so bad, why did she see so many of them? No, it was time to do what she wanted.
Rumi took a deep breath and told the artist she was ready. The buzzing machine descended to her skin and began to turn the blue stencil on her skin into her first tattoo.

Her body feels like it’s full of bees, buzzing through her chest and under her skin. She wants to scream, wants to kick something, wants to run.
So she does.
Out the front door. Down the street. One, two, three blocks away. As far as her legs will take her.
She knows this will only make things worse; that she’ll have to face the fury of her eomeoni when she comes back – they don’t even bother coming to find her anymore, haven’t for a while. But right now she doesn’t care. Being in the house was suffocating, she couldn’t handle it anymore, her body – full of rage and confusion and sadness – couldn’t handle it anymore. She couldn’t walk up to her room for the second time this week and sit there in silence wondering why it’s like this; why she’s like this. Not today. Not again.
