By the time the ambulance pulled away with the patient, the crew was sliding tools back into their compartments. Ravi moved slower, dropping every second item. Every motion was like fighting through molasses. His breaths were running shallow now, his chest rising and falling too fast for someone who was apparently fine.
“Ravi,” Bobby called, tone laced with concern.
Ravi moved, opening his mouth to say the same phrase again, but the words failed. His knees buckled, the world moving in slow motion, and before anyone could catch him, he crumpled to the asphalt with a dull thud.

“That’s my natural look,” The corners of Hunter’s lips quirked up in the ghost of a smile before it dropped again. Dull, brown eyes with heavy dark circles underneath met Darius’ emerald ones for a split second before looking down. Darius was taken aback by the new colour, resisting the urge to ask a million questions. No, he knew he had to go about this gently. All he’d end up doing is overwhelming the kid.
Hunter spoke up before Darius had the chance to reply, “It’s been a long day.”

His mum’d told him once that ‘violence only begat violence,’ and well, his dad’d begat him, didn’t he? (Jamie’d looked up the definition, once). So it stood to reason, then, that his dad’s violence would’ve leached into Jamie, like poison in his blood, and all it meant was that one day, one day, he’d give his dad as good as he got.
