He was surprised that seeing her standing tall and proud made him not so jealous anymore. Not so- eager to prove he can do the same as her now. Ferdinand did not know why his body did not spring into action; he did not question his subdued nature as of late. General Aegir hummed as he spoke, “how do you know… when you love someone, romantically?”

"Sure," He replied instead, the taste of ale sticking to his tongue. "Fine enough. It's been weird without your cooking, though." He admitted on a whim, because it's true, if not a bit silly — But he's never eaten as good as he did when the dwarf was tending to his every meal, and that's an undeniable fact of his life. He keeps himself fed, but it's not the same as what he would be prepared in the dungeon.
"Well," Senshi hummed, then nods to himself. "I'll just have to come make ye something, then."
And so Chilchuck, for the first time since he's been home, cleans and reorganizes his small, meager kitchen.

He’d know from a very young age that his death would not be of his own choosing. It was very likely he was going to die in one of two places: on the battlefield, fighting and defending Lady Edelgard or bleeding out in the shadows of some alley. He had made his peace with either possibility a long time ago.
What he hadn't expected nor had time to accept, was a death like this.
Like most people, the first time he’d ever heard of the disease had been through fairy tales; the ones he started reading to a young Edelgard when she couldn’t sleep. Stories that talked about the power of the heart and how it could be turned against us if we were not ‘attune’ with it.

It’d been years since Ferdinand had visited his father.
At first, it was easy enough to justify. They were in the middle of a war and there was hardly time to travel back and forth between Enbarr and the family estate to catch up. Not to mention, he’d still been coming to terms with his father’s incorrigible actions as prime minister. He’d always known his father to be a selfish man, but he’d never imagined he could encourage the sort of thing that had happened to Edelgard and her siblings. It was a lot to take in.
Ferdinand had written to him when it was necessary, of course. He checked in to be sure the aging man was comfortable and still in good health. That, at least, he owed his father. He had given Ferdinand a roof over his head and paid for his education. He might be unforgivable in almost every regard, but a debt was still a debt.--
