Buck was many things, a son, a father, a brother. A husband. And now, a firefighter. Not quite yet, his first shift wouldn’t begin for another ten minutes, but once it did, he would officially be a firefighter.
Buck sat in his jeep, and looked at the firehouse in front of him, trying to find the courage to simply walk inside. He was unnecessarily nervous, but it had been a long time since he was the new guy at a job. He joined the army along with hundreds of other newbies, so he didn’t feel alone in that. It must have been one of the part-time jobs he worked in high school. Damnit, he was 31 years old, so why was he nervous? He glanced at his watch, and read the time; 7:58.
“Shit,” he said, and grabbed his duffle bag from the passenger seat, before hopping out of the jeep.
