"I used to think we would make it one day. Marriage, more kids, white picket fences, the whole nine yards. I mean, the rest of the 118 definitely seemed to think so. There was a bet on us in a notebook and everything. I got them to donate half the money to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation and half to Wounded Warriors in the end."

He had planned it down to a tee. He had waited until he knew Steve and Bucky had piles of paperwork to be doing, mainly because no one actually wants to do paperwork after a six hour battle - not even Mr Tall, Blonde and Patriotic could be excited about filling in boxes about what went wrong in the mission and what they were doing to rectify it.
It’s not until he’s flicking his eyeliner to perfect his eyeliner that he pauses. He’s been pretty good at ignoring his more intrusive thoughts, but they threaten to drag him down now, sudden and overwhelming, like a massive wave from the ocean.

But small ones like this? Steve, Bucky and Tony were more than likely to be on the penthouse floor, curled up against each other, with the TV on low in the background.
