He had planned it down to a tee. He had waited until he knew Steve and Bucky had piles of paperwork to be doing, mainly because no one actually wants to do paperwork after a six hour battle - not even Mr Tall, Blonde and Patriotic could be excited about filling in boxes about what went wrong in the mission and what they were doing to rectify it.
It’s not until he’s flicking his eyeliner to perfect his eyeliner that he pauses. He’s been pretty good at ignoring his more intrusive thoughts, but they threaten to drag him down now, sudden and overwhelming, like a massive wave from the ocean.

Big missions, complete with ten HYDRA agents for every one of them, civilians to evacuate and bombs to diffuse bought a different kind of energy - the glad to be alive one, and the entire team would pile into the theatre room to throw popcorn at each other and insult movies.
But small ones like this? Steve, Bucky and Tony were more than likely to be on the penthouse floor, curled up against each other, with the TV on low in the background.
