Summary
Xiao has been protecting Liyue for centuries, following the contract of Rex Lapis even after he freed him from his duty. He had always only considered himself a weapon, too lethal to get close to anyone. That was until he crossed paths with the golden haired Traveler, Aether, who dared to approach him despite his warnings. Aether made him feel different, awakening new emotions within him that he had buried a long ago. Aether brought new light to his life, pulling him out of the darkness that had consumed him. But with those new feelings came also uncertainty. And as Aether leaves for his travels beyond the sea, Xiao discovers unfamiliar feelings forming in his heart. Worry, longing and the need to have someone by his side. And as he attempts to understand these feelings, it seems to only cause more challenges that threaten to bring them both apart.

Xiao and Aether have been friends since forever. If you were looking for the pretty blond you would surely find the young raven-haired man next to him. The duo has always been inseparable, and it didn't change when they entered adulthood, to the point where one wonders if they are not happily married. Well, there were some circumstances making their "case special" but there is no way they were married.
They were just normal "childhood friends" living together in order to save money on rent.

Xiao and Aether dated, but the dark-haired male's decision was influenced more by his drive to overcome his one-sided crush on Venti, Zhongli's best friend. Venti helped him a lot when he was a child by supporting him in getting an adequate education and a nice home to live in, as well as acting as a buddy who could listen to his issues. Xiao apparently did not reveal this to Aether since he believed it would not pose any problems. He had no idea that Aether would find out the truth by accident, causing him to make the most hurtful decision for both of them.
