Summary
After a rough fight with Shredder, a reveal of who their father is, and some exposition into their creation, the family has a bit of downtime to really start to get used to things, like testing their mystic abilities, the twins exploring their new relationship, so on.
But one night, Leo is awakened by a noise in the sewer, a small turtle infant mutated in the same way as them. With no leads-yet-the family takes him in just as easily as Lou did those years ago with three tiny boys, and a new chapter in their lives begins.
And then, not too long after, a portal opens in the heart of New York, and two people from the future come bearing ill news...

Leo is about 70% sure Casey was raised by his future-self, and Casey saw the guy as his dad in some way. Still sees him, his current self, as a father figure.
Surprisingly, Leo is fine with this.
Or,
Casey misses his dads but is too scared to get close to the younger versions of them— well, one of them at least. Plus, they’re not even together in this timeline! So it would be weird to call them both dad… It’s probably for best to keep his distance.
Leo is going to change that.

Summary
Finally, finally, they spotted two blurs of color in the dull tunnels. Both were bundles of blue and green, but one had a splash of purple on his head. There was no longer a pair of voices. Instead, all they could hear were frantic chirps, churrs, and whines. They silently inched forward, straining their senses to get a better feel of the situation.
As they got closer, they noticed with guilty dread that the littler one was not moving.
Alternatively:
During winter, when the twins were just young turtle tots, Blue and Purple got lost in the sewers. One doesn't make it... but they both end up finding their way back home.This changes everything and nothing at the same time.

A loud rumble left the turtle, dark eyes staring at her hungrily. He quivered with excitement and licked his lips, his tongue edging along his teeth.
"Hot? Me too. That's why I ditched my gear."
April wasn't sure what to make of the way her stomach flip-flopped at the sight of Donnie's tongue sliding along his teeth like that…and the look in his eyes was just a bit too similar to the way he'd look at a creepy supreme pizza before devouring it.
It suddenly felt a lot warmer than when she'd been wearing her jacket, her face flushing.

Donnie blinked twice before his brow furrowed. "You're...not really a 'water person'?" he asked, making air quotes with his fingers. "April, I've seen you enter far too many swimming pools for that to be a factual statement."
"Yeah, the shallow end maybe," April replied. "Huge difference between three feet and six feet, Dee. It's just a hang up, don't worry about it."
Donnie's quick mind ran through all his memories of 'April in a body of water.' April standing in water? Sure. Kayaking upon its surface? Many times. But swimming? He actually couldn't recall a time where he'd ever witnessed her treading water.
"You...can't swim," he said slowly, his expression one of dawning realization.
Donnie takes it upon himself to teach April how to swim. The lesson in turtle biology is an unexpected bonus.
