The first thing Cassian notices is the lack of it.
That’s not quite true. The first thing he’d noticed was the ever stretching tungstoid floors, closely followed by searing, burning pain that worked its way through every nerve and fiber of his body.
It’s odd to notice something because it isn’t there, but as he steps onto the platform that will take him down to the floor, it’s impossible to miss. Or rather, it’s because it’s missing. Fifty men enclosed in a space so small shouldn’t smell like nothing.
