“Just how long has it been since Cang Qiong was attacked?”
Shen Jiu pauses. He wasn’t really keeping track of the days in his head, but it’s been longer than he’s really thought about.
“Nearly two weeks,” he replies. He turns back to face Liu Qingge. “Why?”
“Where are the others?” Liu Qingge’s brows are furrowed. “Did they really leave you with me?”
“The others?” Shen Jiu repeats. It takes him a moment to realize that Liu Qingge does not know that it’s just the two of them. That Liu Qingge was the only one he found not who wasn’t missing or dead after Cang Qiong’s fall. “Liu Qingge, there are no others.”
The silence that falls is as sharp as a guillotine's blade.
It's decades after the end of the old world, and days after Cang Qiong's fall, but that's not what matters. What matters is that Shen Jiu is stuck with Liu Qingge of all people, as the two of them try to survive a world full of undead and cruelty. Along the way, maybe, there's room for forgiveness and love. That's if the boy back from the dead doesn't kill them first.

Shen Jiu let's his head fall back against Yue Qi's shoulder, who looks down at him and gives him a guilty smile. "Qi-ge is sorry, this is for your own good-" He says, hand petting Shen Jiu's ears absentmindedly. Shen Jiu feels something get tightened around his foot, presumably to cut off the circulation. Then, a sharp nip as he's injected with something.
Mu Fang's hand at his ankle rubs it soothingly, "I've cut off circulation and injected the foot with numbing solution. It shouldn't hurt Shen-shixiong." Shen Jiu just whines, his words not working. Bile rises in his throat as he hears the clanking if metal against eachother as something is picked up.
Shen Jiu gets declawed.

Summary

The other is taller, muscular, hair a copper red—vivid even in grainy night vision. They stand at opposite ends of the bed, a hush in their posture, faces set. He watches for a moment, trying to place them, but they’re just another couple, aren’t they?
He scrolls the timeline, flicking to 2x speed—just in time to see the atmosphere between them combust. Sudden movement, a flurry of limbs.
“Holy fuck,” the tech mutters, slowing the playback, squinting at the faces. He sees the redhead’s profile in a flash, jaw sharp, eyes dark.
The way he moves is familiar. It claws at the back of his memory.
He pulls up a browser, fingers flying over keys. A few clicks, a couple image searches. There’s no mistaking the match.
