Vox knows Alastor is being sarcastic. He knows. And usually, he’d be able to shrug it off.
But he’s so damn beaten down already, the words are like a knife to the heart, making him bleed.
“I don’t want your fucking gloating,” he snarls. “You won. Is that what you wanted to hear? You were right about me, and I’ve failed, again, like you told me I would. Big fucking hurray to you. Go celebrate your victory with Princess Friendship.”

Summary
Let’s switch up the timeline a little bit:
Maul is captured by Ahsoka before the Chancellor is being kidnapped, thus Order 66 doesn’t happen just yet. Instead Maul is taken to Coruscant to stand trial.
At the same time, an Exploration Corp finds note of an ancient artifact of great importance, but has trouble locating it. For the artifact to be located and activated, it needs both, a Jedi and a Sith. Good thing the Order has one at hand. Obi-Wan, unwilling to put another Jedi at risk, volunteers to work with Maul. Maul is, surprisingly, quite cooperative.
Together, they challenge destiny.

Summary
In the hours after Order 66 nothing is certain. Even from within his prison cell, Darth Maul can feel that the future of the galaxy is in flux. In this bizarre window of time, everything is changing... and when the universe swings back into balance, Maul finds that while Anakin Skywalker has become a servant of the dark, his own place in the galaxy has become unclear. Sidious has all but condemned him to death, and Maul can't shake the strangest feeling that the Force is bringing him ever closer to Obi-Wan.
A/N: This story is in its final, though incomplete form. It is marked as completed, because there will not be subsequent chapters. And I feel I said what I set out to say. Lex pressed the heel of his palm to his temple. “Eve. He wears full tactical armor. He has gauntlets reinforced with alloy plating that can crack a battleship. He is not going to be admiring his cuticles.”
“But I will,” Eve said, with a little shrug, dipping her fingers into a small makeup pouch she’d hidden in her lab coat. “It helps me focus. And he'll sit still for it.”
