3 years ago, Superman appeared in Metropolis for the first time to stop a Metro train from derailing. Lois Lane broke the story. 6 weeks later, meek and mild-mannered Clark Kent joined the Daily Planet, only to learn that Lois had bigger fish to fry than Superman, and it fell to him to write about his alter ego's extracurricular activities.
Lois Lane did not have time for Superman. Nor did she need to be dealing with a newbie on her trail at work. She was smack dab in the middle of exposing the city's next big corruption case. But Clark Kent had his uses, and he was certainly an enigma of his own.
AKA one possible prequel to the events of Superman (2025)

“Lex had a meeting with him, at least one. And some contracts with your name on it,” Lois explained. In his peripheral vision, Rex saw Clark, Guy, Michael, and Kendra drift a little closer, concern painted on their faces. “I think he gave Lex your kid.”
The cold feeling went warm, and then hot, and then Rex was gas, slithering under doors and flying off into the night toward his father-in-law’s mansion.
