Summary
Izuku watches his childhood and current best friend get murdered by the sludge villain while the heroes hold him back.
They say there was nothing they could have done, they didn’t have “suitable quirks”.
Izuku’s anger fuels his need to show them that your quirk, or lack there of, shouldn’t stop you from saving a life.
He loses more and more of himself as he speeds towards the next fight, the next villain. All in the hopes of keeping his dead friends dream alive.
Will it all come crashing down around him? Will he lose himself completely and become nothing more than a shell of his former self? Or will he find people in this life who are willing to help him back to the surface before he drowns?

Izuku doesn’t let the fact that the guy doesn’t have a hero’s license bother him.

Izuku befriends a vigilante and gets ingrained into a world that’s all ‘gray area’. At some point he even finds himself interacting with people who have stepped over the line into the ‘villains’ side. Izuku might spend a little time over the line too. When the weight of his misfortune became too heavy to carry, Izuku was pushed over the edge. Only for another boy with a different "villain quirk" to pull him back over. Together, the both of them move forward trying to prove to the society that not everything painted in a black light is bad.
The real question is whether or not Izuku can prove that to himself first.

The Sludge Villain doesn't find Bakugo after escaping All Might, but some other random civilian. There's no series of explosions to draw All Might to the scene of the second attack. It's by pure luck that Izuku stumbles upon them. And Izuku does what he always has when he sees one person hurting another: inserts himself between the aggressor and victim. He finds this is significantly harder to do when one of the parties is a sentient slime.
