Summary
This is just something a friend of mine asked about me doing. I had been telling her about what I was planning for Morgan in AKC and some of the things that happened between her and Steve when they were growing up that would be mentioned in memories in the main AKC story. She said she wanted to hear more about Steve's life growing up so I decided to start a little prologue series. This will be just a bunch of random scenes they're not meant to be as well thought out or edited as the main story. It's just basically small little drabbles of moments that happened before Avenger's Kids Club starts.

Going back to the money, Ponyboy began to notice something about the way the it was all placed. Some of the bills were neatly folded and stacked while others were crumpled into balls, as though they’d been angrily thrown in at the end of a rough day.
Or a rough argument.
And all too suddenly, it clicked with him. All the vague threats Darry made in the haze of their fights, all of the spat out declarations of moving on and leaving Soda and Ponyboy to fend for themselves, all the extra shifts and longer nights Darry seemed to add without thinking they’d notice…
It wasn’t simple angry threatening. It was a warning. He had a plan.

“Pony, Pony,” Darry sits up from the rug and takes his youngest brother by the arms, “Johnny is dead. Dally is dead. But you can’t go too. We’d fall apart without you. We’d be nothing without you. Ever since you and Soda were born, my entire life has been about you two. You’re everything to me and, and-”
His voice cracks right down the middle, like a splinter of lightning across a darkened sky.
“Ponyboy, I watched Mom and Dad die, then Johnny and Dally. I can’t watch you die too. I know I’m hard on you, I know sometimes I get mad and I shout and I struggle, but I love you. I’m just so scared.”
Based on a scene in the musical where Cherry returns Johnny’s clothes to Ponyboy and he just sits with his knees to his chin, clutching the bundle of clothes to his chest and refusing to speak. It was so poignant, such a moment of raw and real grief.
