The first time they met, they hit it off- maybe despite of the fact they were both awkward and unsure, or maybe, because of it. When they parted, Simon seemed to think Derek should have gotten her number- but with all the baggage he was carrying, Derek was glad he didn't.
Now, though, Derek's a world-renowned game designer alongside Simon and Tori. Chloe's still publishing books, but it's not as fruitful as she'd hoped it would be- she's working as a waitress in L.A. to make ends meet as she waits with baited breath to see if the deal to turn one of her books into a movie will actually go through.

I made the age gap 3 years instead of 5.(making him 13 instead of 14 and louise 10 instead of 9 when they first met)
