Summary
The stranger’s hands tremble, their very being trembles, when they reach to reveal their face, and Jon struggles to keep pity at bay. He’s not sure what he had expected or pictured, but it was never this. If the years have changed Jon then they have torn Theon Greyjoy apart and aged him until he is barely recognisable.
“I should kill you without a second thought,” Jon spits, pulling down his own scarf, and feels repulsed when the only response is a bared throat, but his mind is already on the girl. He dares to dream.
Filled grief's rage, when the Commander of the Watch survives a mutiny he stands down from his position and succumbs to the Warden of the North's taunts, embarking on a mission to rescue his sister, but on his approach to his ancestral home he has a run-in with a traitor and a sniffling girl that sends him back in the opposite direction.
*Jon, Theon, and Jeyne flee Bolton control and set off in search of safety and Starklings, creating seemingly unlikely bonds in the face of past actions and societal structures.*

Summary
It has been a long journey in more ways than one, and Theon is utterly exhausted. He is tired from the lack of sleep, yes, but after the things that he has suffered, Theon is hounded by a particular type of exhaustion that even sleep won't fix.
While lamenting alone during a rare amount of down time, Theon receives a visit from the Dragon Queen herself. At first he thinks she is going to send him away for failing to protect his sister and the Sand Snakes, but instead he finds himself greeted with the first amount of kindness that anyone has given him in a while.

Robb hadn’t imagined that he’d get to the Dreadfort to find Theon gone, apparently rescued by some of his sister’s men who had been staying at Deepwood Motte, and Ramsay Snow swearing left and right that he hadn’t known that his father was planning on turning his cloak and telling Robb that he’d be more than glad to prove him that he surely was not thinking about serving anyone else.
Or: where Robb doesn't die at the Twins and has to rely on Ramsay Snow to find Theon again and close the betrayal matter once and for all, thinking that it's going to be pretty straightforward. He thinks wrong.

He feels like he's hurting Theon. He probably shouldn't care, after everything Theon did, but Bran hates watching him cry and he does it all the time now. The Theon he knew never cried. This isn't him. But neither was the Theon who hacked off Rodrik Cassel's head while Bran cried and begged him not to. Perhaps the Theon he knew was no real Theon at all."
Bran uses his powers to talk to someone he's not seen in many years. It's a painful experience for the both of them.
