Summary
The afternoon was like any other - birds were singing, people chatting, and Kageyama and Hinata had another shouting match, much to their teammates' amused annoyance.
It takes one odd encounter with someone who holds a grudge to change the lives of the two squabblers forever. An encounter that almost ends deadly for one of them and could potentially end his future athletic career if he doesn't learn to adjust to his new life soon.
Kageyama and Hinata are both shaken. But Kageyama is not as lonely as he thinks but surviving a traumatic event, guilt, existential fear and hopelessness, and being an awkward teenager with feelings that go deeper than wanting to be accepted as a friend make it hard.
Hinata, like on the court, is a lot stronger than anyone would assume. But whether he can become strong enough to support his friend or crumbles under the burden is something he has to figure out by himself. The kiss would happen on some lazy summer afternoon, a cool breeze mingling with the scent of flowers, and the gentle sound of cicadas would be humming in the background. They’d both be laughing, get closer, and it would sort of just happen. It would be perfect!

Megumi wonders if Yuji would make the same desperate plea. If he begged Sukuna, for peace, for silence in his own mind, for him to help in this losing battle they always seem to find themselves in. He wonders what Yuji had offered in return. Certainly not this. Megumi couldn’t imagine him handing over the reins of control so easily. Yuji is resistance and will as a river is running and wild; he doesn’t think he could exist any other way. Yuji would not release Sukuna into the world. He would not leave sorcerers and civilians alike at Sukuna’s mercy, but Megumi is not Yuji. Megumi is weak, and he is in love, and he will do anything to see Yuji safe, consequences be damned.
Let Yuji go, Megumi begs. Let me see him whole and breathing, and I’ll give you control. I won’t try to stop you again.
Sukuna takes over his body, and then Megumi makes a deal with the devil.

“I was always taught you shouldn’t accept food from strangers,” Megumi told him, his voice flat, doing his best to appear disinterested. It was also a lie - if anything, he was sure Gojou would’ve encouraged him to get into the back of any van for candy as a child.
Megumi’s dull tone did nothing to sway the boy’s pleasant demeanor, his honeyed smile still dripping from his lips and onto his words. He held out his free hand, fingers opened and splayed. “Yuuji Itadori! It’s nice to meet you…” His words trailed off, expectedly waiting a response.
Something must have possessed Megumi. He suddenly felt as though he was watching himself from an outside perspective as he leaned forward, cold hands wrapping around Itadori’s rough and warm hands. “Megumi Fushiguro,” he replied, forcing his voice not to shake. The hospital was definitely fucking with his head.
